The last few months have been a ghost town each time I've visited. Kitchen closed, not serving their signature beer anymore...

...anyone else see this happening here? I genuinely like this place but it's felt increasingly bleak with each passing month. Google reviews I skimmed through seem to confirm a sudden drop in quality from poor service to cleanliness issues

It's always been garbage. The two times I have gone for food, they've been out of key ingredients that significantly limited the menu options. Also had issues with beers not being available.

Years ago, me and a group of friends also got lectured by the staff for not calling ahead to say 6 of us would be coming so they could ensure they had enough staff.

I just avoid it completely now. Much better options around.

Not defending this place but I have been there several times and now work in Canary so a few thoughts. It has been there for a while and has become a bit of a neighbourhood meeting place. They have a very steady stream of people who use it to watch sports and see music and it is rarely empty. With food I will admit that I have a weakness for tater tots ! But it has never been awful. It isn’t a foodie place but as a neighbourhood place it does fill a need.

I'm happy to hear a positive take. I hope it can turn around some of the issues i've witnessed as it can be a great space

I have also had the experience of standing at the door waiting to be seated while being ignored. It seems the place is always understaffed, even when they know it will be busy or an event is taking place. So, I don't make specific plans to eat there anymore.

Having said that, I do like to buy beer from their bottle shop and they are very generous with respect to community events. I hope they can resolve their service issues, as they do fill a need in the neighbourhood. The food is fine.

The bottle shop is definitely handy in the summer, being so close to Corktown Common!

They've just posted on their Instagram that the Aviary and the brewery are for sale.

Interesting - I wonder which solid local indie brewers would be interested in taking over such a prime downtown space to expand their reach and visibility. I certainly wouldn't mind a second outpost of Indie Ale House...

They do the beer at Eataly in Manulife Centre
