I have been on a mission for a few months to find The Best Sandwich in Ottawa. I will collate and post my quick reviews here, and would love to see other reviews! I'm a sandwich addict.

Today I tried Roberto's Corner at 1034 Pleasant Park Rd. in the back of a Quickie convenience store.

I had the Roberto's Italian Trio (hot). Prosciutto, Mortadella, Capicollo and Provolone Cheese. Only $8.99 in 2024....c'est incroyable!!! I loaded it up with veggies, garlic sauce, and chipotle sauce.

I chose to have it toasted, and it was the perfect choice. The bread was light and almost gooey on the inside, with the outside lightly toasted. The meat was incredibly moist, the veg was fresh. This is the 'Dirienzos Killer' for me. The only place that beats it in my rankings so far is Bella's Boys on Greenbank.

Yum! Will need to try. May I suggest the sandwich counter at Sherwood Supermarket (Sherwood/Carling Ave) and the one at Home of Fresh Pasta on Wellington W.

In October I tried Subito at 389 Gladstone.

I had the Slow Roasted Beef sandwich for $11.50. I found the bread slightly dry and the beef not particularly flavourful. This sandwich was very a 6/10 for me. I promised myself to return for a cold sandwich to see if Subito can redeem itself.

The cold sandwiches at Subito are top notch so I would recommend returning. Dirienzos is good but I find the bread too crunchy/dry.

I would also recommend trying Gooneys at Kent and Albert.

My top three (not in order) are Subito, Gooneys, and Sherwood Deli

I will definitely head back for a cold sandwich soon. I haven't tried Gooneys yet, I'll add it to the list!

Agreed about the bread at Dirienzos, far too dry. It's a 6/10 for me. I'm not a big fan of Sherwood. I've had their famous bacon and avocado on egg bread a few times when the line was too long at Dirienzos and it's just a 5/10 for me. It lacks flavour and it's so damned messy and falls apart, I end up eating most of it with a fork like a salad.

Not exactly Ottawa anymore but...road trip for you: Maison Melda https://www.maisonmelda.ca/
or
https://www.maisonmelda.ca/lunch-du-midi#Sandwichs Everything is amazing but try the pulled pork or the beef sandwiches? Veggie option is also good. They are wrapped in plastic in their display case but then take them back into their kitchen which is where the magic happens. So good. Eat inside or the picnic tables out back. (I rate it higher than dirienzos, la botegga, il negozia nicastro, sherwood, and frankies by a long shot).

Finally had time to pop over here and check Skyrise. Great work hoggy!

Wanted to chime in with another vote of confidence for a Subito cold sandwich, much better than their warm ones. Subito is #1 in the city for me as I find their quality of ingredients and ratio of ingredients to one another are perfect. Closely followed by Roberto's at #2, and #3 is a toss-up depending on what exactly I'm looking for or what's close (Franks, DiRienzos, Nicastros, Sherwood).
