Cadillac Fairview didn't acquire the parcel until around the year 2000, give or take a year or two (well after the cladding). By then, the City would have insisted on conservation of the facade.
 
we were speaking of "nail houses" earlier on another thread - this is one of those. It's a hold out from when Eatons was assembling the block. As Skeezix says, they didn't manage to pick it up until 2000 or so.
 
I guess Harry Rosen is expanding - the documentation shows that there will be a Future Connection on the second floor to the existing Harry Rosen store. Will give them great street front access and right across from Saks.

So, it's started? This is going to look beautiful when it's finished. This plus the new bridge are bringing a lot of class to this block.
