Well, it looks like that "Tree Protection Zone" has failed. Someone should get in trouble for that. Those were nice trees, and I loved to walk past when the second "University Apartments" building was still standing.
 
That's unfortunate. London Plane are great looking trees,. Don't see anything wrong with the TPZ.

Looking at the photos, I think Construction Gate 1 was probably a little bit close to the tree, and all the traffic would have affected the root system. I think the TPZ should have extended a bit further on that end. I wonder what TPZ size/distance requirements are set at.

Side note: How many construction gates are typical for a site?! The photos above show three, all in very close proximity to each other.

Some siding has arrived on site. It looks like about a 1"-2"thick stone laid onto concrete slabs. It looked like what was used on the Florian condo except with stone instead of "brick". Hard to tell if the stone was real or not. I couldn't get close enough.
