Indeed!!

There should be a new thread here... all the poorly designed spaces/structures in the city (title it 'What Were They Thinking').

The restored view corridor towards the cathedral dome in rdaners last pic is remarkable, as much for the soon to be realized potential as for the total lack of vision of the original brutalist architects.

Can't wait till its all done .I have lived right behind the complex on the corner directly across from the 545-564 sherborne podium for 18 years and also at 545 sherbourne St for 6 years before moving across the street .. I live at 325 Bleecker St directly behind the new tower being built between 545 and 565 sherbourne St and in the next few weeks the street will look so diffrent once it is reopen ...think it will take another month or 2 to finish demolition of the entire podium surrounding the complex ..and then they begin the new 46 story building and the town homes along bleecker St..It will be such an improvement to the area

Not straight, will always be a bit bent.

I used the road regularly to get into the parking garage under these buildings and Im fairly certain it was straight before, so the bend would be new... but in this case, I think its a welcome change. The area sees more traffic from pedestrians than vehicles, so it makes sense to make this appear less like a thru-road.

Edit: Ok so there is currently a bend, but its so minimal that I doubt it has any effect at all on the 'urbanity'.

Photo taken 24 January 2014. I wonder how much auto, bike and pedestrian traffic is going to increase along St. James Avenue?

Its already 100x better and they haven't even built anything! Imagine how embarrassing it is now to be an architect who worked in the 60s and 70s.

Nice to see more progression on this demo... The new additions will be great for this area.

Now if they could only get rid of 540 Sherbourne (across the street in that bottom pic)... that building and the owner = mess.
