If the PATH connection to the 1-7 Yonge site is going to be built via the ACC south of the tracks, why would they build a separate connection just to serve some condo buildings with no office or retail components?

The 7 Yonge cluster will have quite a bit of retail in its base, but what you're really asking is, why no connection across Harbour?! The answer is, that's likely something the City will want negotiated into the final plan!

No, I was saying why would there be a dedicated PATH connection to Backstage and L-Tower (across Yonge, north of the rail corridor) if the route to the 1-7 Yonge project is south of it. PATH connections across streets aren't built just to connect condos.

In the case of Backstage, that is the case however. They may also hook the Green P garage into the PATH, which isn't very sexy either, but it does seem that the City sees value in allowing people to avoid the weather if it's inclement, whether it's to tie in their Downtown home or office.

The stone work on the podium is looking better than I thought it would, especially since to my eye the tower itself isn't all that great. Especially with the R2D2 blocks on the south side.

This building is a decent background building--hardly spectacular, but it still looks like the architects tried to give it some character with its pattern of contrasting spandrels, stone-clad podium and (somewhat) unusual profile. A good background building isn't a featureless gray box. It's a tower that still has character, but it isn't a main landmark on its own.

Are you comparing the reality to what is depicted in this rendering?

That looks like a stone/precast mix to me, and I think what we are getting looks better than that… but that's subjective and I would not expect everyone to agree!
