I'm kind of disappointed an email was sent out to all UT members advertising that everyone vote for Urban Toronto Tower. What about the members who made their own name? You should send out a second email with all of the UT members votes as well.

wow just wow,

Here I was having some fun and trying to get some visibility for the forum. I had no idea it would cause so much commotion. I guess I was spending too much time in cahoots with the developers... mea culpa

Seriously I have no problem backing another name(s). But someone needs to explain to me how we go about picking one or more names from 1500 active members. Thoughts/suggestions? There is still a month to go and each person can vote daily so we can easily affect things. And since every person can vote for multiple names we could come up with a short list of 5 or 10 that we officially back.

Take my suggestion. Make a deadline for entries to be included in the email.
Then go through this thread since the contest started, and pick the entries people posted here as members. Then send out an email with all of the entries to UT users. :)

I just want to know who the idiot is who is number 1 -- maybe not such an idiot after all -- but you know what I mean. And what kind of resources are they using to get hundreds of new votes everyday?? Sounds fishy!

I know who he is..... I told him about this NameOurCondo contest

Actually, Khristopher's suggestion is pretty good. Set a deadline, tell people to post their entry in this thread, and cull from there. If there's a whole lot, maybe exercise some editorial discretion. (Or maybe not.) Then post the list - with links!! - as a sticky on the front page for the duration of the contest, so we can go and support our own every day.

This could only lead to an improvement in the quality of entries on the leaderboard, which certainly wouldn't hurt the developers. The leader right now is obviously from 4chan, a forum devoted to online shit-disturbing (though they *did* give us the Rick-roll). So if the results are going to get manipulated by online communities, why not work it from a community that actually CARES about this stuff?

After all, once they pick a name, we're going to be stuck with it on our forum for the next few years...

Funny how "World Trade Center" and "World Trade Center Towers" are in there (as well as a "911 Tower"), probably totally oblivious that there's already a pair of "World Trade Centre" condos not far away at the foot of Yonge.

Or we could all just vote for the suggestions we like on their website like the individuals we are. :)

I think if we vote as a group it'd be better. I say after culling a list of suggestions from members, we do a poll (because everyone knows I love polls) and then throw our support behind the top 5.

Before this topic came up I'd never heard of 4chan before. And I do a lot of forums! (UT, SSC, HoFo, TrekBBS, Doctor Who Forum).

Please add your entry number in a post below if it does not appear in the list above: I'm not going looking for them, and no-one else should have to either. You can vote once a day apparently, so if there is more than one above that you want to support, you can do it one day at a time. If after a while a few UrbanToronto entries pull ahead, we could conduct a poll here to decide which of those to pile onto (for those interested).

I tried adding the name "Goatse". Either a glitch made it not go through, or a wily censor. Still, I wonder how many votes "Goatse" would have gotten

Y....but we leave our header/page design in its horrid current state* and then, when things couldn't be worse, we try getting a tower named "Urban Toronto Tower". This place is getting odd and tiring :(

*I post this criticism here because when I post in the designated thread about how we need a makeover, it is ignored.

seconded--i am permanently unreconciled to the very amateurish header, and page layout that the forum admins have rather stubbornly foisted on us. and yes, the comments in the designated thread are ignored. i think many of us were surprised that actions weren't taken to hire a professional designer when this was being talked about months ago.

its annoying because the forum is extremely valuable and serious, and that banner/home page is presenting a very immature and unprofessional face to the world....

sorry for the off-topic post!

thanks for putting together the comprehesive names list I-42 ... much appreciated

I actually created "Briar Mews on the Greene", which was essentially as meaningless and irritating as I could come up with. Two votes. What's wrong with people?

I find the number of misspelled names, without evident ironic intention, to be quite sad. There's also an abundance of names that are eerily similar to other condo names out there (Crystal this & that, variations on "Sky", clumsy appeals to luxury or wealth). If people are even halfway serious about these things, it makes me feel that perhaps we get the condo names we deserve.

In terms of funny names, I'm gonna hafta go with Cül (Central Urban Lookout). I would go with "Ceci n'est pas une autre condo" were in not for the "autre", which ruins it.
