Nice pic lolwut..what i dont get is them building a boardwalk so close to a building that is falling apart
Wouldnt it be more appropriate to get the structure restored first.:confused:
 
Repair work to the silos has been ongoing and completed as necessary. Stabilizing and restoring the silos will be done once the City gets a developer on board which will follow the repairs and beautification of the Portland Slip's west dock wall to successfully connect Queen's Quay to Ireland Park.

Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport offers fix for taxi gridlock

A solution is being offered to address the longstanding problem of taxis lining the foot of Bathurst St. near Billy Bishop island airport.

Residents fear taxi gridlock will only get worse with increased congestion from the imminent construction of a pedestrian tunnel to improve access to the island, now reached by ferry.

During the three-year tunnel construction period, the Toronto Port Authority which runs the airport has proposed moving taxis to a staging area on the city-owned Canada Malting silos site.

^When city council approved the Airport Tunnel last summer, they also approved leasing the Canada Malting Silo lands to the TPA for construction/staging purposes. I thought taxi staging was being moved to Dan Leckie way, north of Lakeshore, but maybe there are two parts to the staging.

New Island airport parking hinges on complying with city orders

Noise, fumes and speeding taxis were among the grievances brought to Toronto and East York Community Council March 20 as it considered the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport's plan to build a new parking/loading area at the base of Bathurst Street.

And the community council listened - voting unanimously to defer approval of the site plan for the new parking area, part of the airport's plan to smooth passenger loading by building a pedestrian tunnel between the mainland and the island airport.

The parking area is located at the base of Eireann Quay, south of Queen's Quay West, and is intended to act as a commercial parking lot and construction staging area for the pedestrian tunnel.

The land is owned by the city, but being leased to the Toronto Port Authority - which operates the Island airport - for the three years it will take to finish the federally-funded pedestrian tunnel.

In order to go ahead and create the parking area, which will hold 18 short stay spaces and 26 long stay spaces, city council needs to approve a site plan control application.

The community council decided not to, after hearing the airport had not addressed a myriad of community issues, including providing drop-off parking for a nearby elementary school, providing speed humps to prevent speeding taxis rushing for fares, and sidewalks and pedestrian aspects.

Are they washing it? Why? I think a good paint job would be an improvement. Then they could use the silos as a huge movie screen for public film events. It would at least be putting those things to some good use.
 
The silos are coming down :(. From Bathurst Quay Neighbourhood Association:
Build Toronto will be overseeing the development of the Canada Malting Lands over the next few years. They have approached BQNA for ideas, wish lists and concerns as plans for the property develop. The large silos will be demolished (a portion will remain as a heritage monument) and the property underneath will be developed. Please send us your ideas as this process begins.

I hope it's not just more condos. We need some fun attractions that will bring people to the area and not just passive, under-used park land. We have enough grass and trees down there already.
