A Muggy Friday in December

Westside story: The core went up another level and the crane jumped three sections and a third tripod support was added to crane# 2. An additional steel floor was added so it's all very uplifting for the joyous holiday season

A closer look at the southern half of the level 02 forming and rebar ready for its marathon Saturday pour. In the upper right section near crane#3, there are two workers using compressed air to flush out any debris that could end up leaving an unwanted impression in the ceiling of level 01. Wouldn't want to see a used pizza box stuck in the ceiling above a parked bus :rolleyes:

Trackside: There was a yellow rectangular steel construction that sat at the southern end of the elevated park. I thought it was to be a platform for a crane that was to be placed on this part of the elevated park, but it was removed last night.

Saw a high level doc stating concrete will top out in July; although the progression chart suggests it could be in May. It seems way more updated then tower glass; which still says December

If it's anything like the other steel constructions in the city (and most in the world), the core will be a fair jump ahead of the steel which will be a fair jump ahead of the glass so that timeline seems right.
 
There is a nifty video that shows a simulated view of the building being constructed from the bottom to the top with the concrete core, steel and windows being represented by different colours... alas internal security policies prevent me from posting it. So if someone from the real estate or what ever team sees this .. figure out a way to get that here please.

There was a major pour underway with cement trucks parked on the Lake Shore and 2 off loading on site.

Looking at the steel framing for the park, it looks like it going over Bay Street tracks, next to the new skywalk to the arena.

The pour on the 15th was an (as I recall) 18 hour pour that created the second level of the new bus terminal. I think that is what they were saying anyway.

Construction Update
Dear neighbours,

Below is a brief update on the progress of the CIBC SQUARE project:

Construction at 81 Bay Street
As the building rises, work at 81 Bay Street will continue include concrete pouring to form core walls and lobby slabs, as well as structural steel installation. Presently, the concrete core walls forming the 81 Bay Street tower have reached level 23, with concrete lobby slabs installed through level 18. Structural steel installation is ongoing at level 6 and level 7 of the building. We have also completed installation of the west concrete crash wall along Bay Street.

Earlier this month we completed two extended concrete pours for the post tension slab which forms level 2 of the new bus terminal. The first pour, completed on December 8th, required 15 hours to complete, while the second pour, completed on December 15th, required 18 hours to complete. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this overnight and weekend work.


Rail Corridor Overbuild Park
The Phase #5 structural steel installation of the park overbuild commenced December 10th and is ongoing. This phase of work connects the west side of the park overbuild with the 81 Bay crash wall structure.


When are we working?
Looking ahead, the following working hours are expected at CIBC SQUARE over the next three weeks:

Week of December 17th:
  • 5AM – 7AM Monday – Friday: Deliveries at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
  • 7AM – 7PM Monday – Friday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay Street
  • 7PM – 10PM Monday – Friday: Installation of steel reinforcement and structural steel at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
  • 12AM – 6AM Monday – Friday: Typical overnight work in the rail corridor for the park overbuild
  • 9AM – 7PM Saturday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay

Week of December 24th:
  • December 24th – December 26th: Site Closed
  • 5AM – 7AM Thursday December 27th and Friday December 28th: Deliveries at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
  • 7AM– 7PM Thursday December 27th and Friday 28th: Regular working hours at 81 Bay street
  • 7PM – 10PM Thursday December 27th and Friday 28th: Installation of steel reinforcement and structural steel at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
  • 9AM – 7PM Saturday December 29th: Regular working hours at 81 Bay

Week of December 31st:
  • December 31st – January 1st: Site Closed
  • 5AM – 10PM January 2nd – January 5th: Regular working + delivery hours resume
  • 12AM – 6AM January 2nd - January 5th: Typical overnight work in the rail corridor for the park overbuild
 
They are certainly not taking many days off over the holiday season. Many other sites will close for a full 2 weeks. Time really is money for commercial builds, residents can just wait!
 
... and add to the fact they appear to be a bit behind schedule too, as tower glass was suppose to start this month.

Schedule is everything especially when the developer has the money to drive it which clearly this one does.
