Wednesday Update: Scotia Bank Arena Bridge to CIBC Escalator Pre-Installation

On Saturday there was a lot of action happening inside the atrium of the SBA. (Vacumn Trucks and Companions) I investigated today on my way home from the YMCA, and low and behold there are two covered holes in the floor of the atrium in the exact location of the two escalators that will service the Bay South Pedestrian PATH connection

Construction Notice

Dear neighbours,

Please be advised of the two critical construction activities planned over the weekend:

1. A continuous concrete pour on level 3 of the East podium - the floor of the mechanical plant - will start at 11PM on Friday and finish at 11AM on Saturday. This continuous pour will require a staging lane for concrete delivery trucks on Lake Shore Blvd. To avoid traffic issues in the area on Friday, the City of Toronto has requested that this work begins late in the evening.

2. A small crew will undertake preparation work for the installation of Tower Crane #4 on Sunday between 9AM and 7PM. The crew will utilize some of the other tower cranes. This work is not expected to generate significant noise.

A more detailed construction update will be sent to you next week.

Thank you,

A closer look at the 3rd level floor getting ready for the pour beginning tonight at 11 pm. I'll try to post again tomorrow after the pour is complete.
The CIBC update implies that a fourth crane is going to be installed on Sunday but I've not seen any activity that would resemble prep work for a crane. I can only assume that it is going on the north side towards the park area where it will be able to service the core construction as well as helping with the construction of the elevated park above the tracks.

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the temporary curtains they've installed? I've never seen this during construction before.
Might be to avoid the wind while they pour the floors? Usually there's formwork up around to protect them from the wind. They may also be spraying fire-retardants on the steel that they don't want flying out to the street.

Also to keep the heat from heaters in...
