the developers are treading a slippery slope...if they every do sell units with the promise of a direct connection and that somehow falls through, they might be sued to hell.

This really isn't about having a direction connection - it's more about whether a neighhourhood about to receive for all intents and purposes "subway" service is ready to densify.

Im ready... My neighbours not so much... They voted against the LRT for this very reason. No clue why though because the retail here has always been a struggle and even worse west of Allen.

well you do have to consider the demographics of the west end. it seems like its mostly lower income and old residential compared to yonge and east where new development is booming.

Once the Eglinton Crosstown LRT is built, Little Jamaica might end up gentrifying, just like Queen West, albeit slowly.

I have no problem with some places like Alberts on St Claire West or Raps on Eglinton. But more often then not the places are not kept well. My wife is west indian but this is my experience. If I go and get food by myself more often then not I (white guy) am not treated very well. On the other hand when we go together we are always served well. However at least 50% of the time with my wife in that area people are whistling at her even when I am directly beside her. Of course that is my own experience but it is interesting to see more and more young white families moving into the area.

I'm convinced that nail salons are a sign of developers pushing rental rates to the max because they aren't ready to move on redevelopment but want to extract maximum profit from high-value property. Case in point is Bloor west of the Humber over to Islington. It chokes out the longer-standing businesses and is likely a month-to-month leasing proposition.

I have such higher expectations for Eglinton West then most do on this thread. I cant see how it can be an interchange station and not get a lot of development on that alone. I also have a hard time understanding how Lawrence and Dufferin can see such a change in development so quick but Eglinton cant. By no means do I think it is going to become yonge street BUT developers cant get their hands on a number of parking lots or small apartment buildings between marlee and Dufferin for a good bargin and sell a big upside such as the transit, quick access to yorkdale, the highway and potential bike lanes being added. But hey I may just be dreaming.

so because they need to walk outside they can get sued? Well, if true than sell units based on few minutes walk to station

It would be a travesty if a community so starved for reliable rapid transit finally gets it only to be served with eviction notices the next day. Bloor-Danforth isn't overrun by condos after 50 years in existence, what makes Eglinton so special? The "subway" is meant to make communities more accessible to the greater public, not change the character of a street entirely beyond recognition.
