Tangent (you started it):

Hyperloop tunnels are sealed to keep the air out (the whole theory of Hyperloop is having trains run in a vacuum to eliminate wind resistance), so presumably if air is kept out than so too shall be water.

The devil's in the details though... Will the stations be underground, or above ground with the tunnels dipping underground from there? If above ground, how far above ground? With climate change in play the historical 100-year flood level ain't what it used to be...
Stations can't be sealed. How will people enter or exit station, otherwise?

The virtual open house is happening today. Wednesday, April 27 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Go to link or link.

Some of the questions look like the people only recently discovered that they will be extending Line 5 into Etobicoke. Where were they? We were discussing plans for decades now. Now, they want "demand" that Metrolinx to go underground all the way, others want elevated all the way or surface only, while others say the plans was not approved by the neighbourhood. Typical NIMBY reactions.

I would have preferred to see the extension go on the surface all the way, but accept that the decisions have been made. The decisions were made by the yes-people of the MPP of the riding of Etobicoke North, who lives a few blocks to the planned route (but likely will not use it).

We are in the "tweaking" of the plans right now. Make "small" adjustments here and there. "Big" adjustments are long gone.

The city is planning to redesign the Martin Grove/Eglinton intersection to a protected intersection for bike lane extensions to Eglinton. I bet it is incredibly dangerous atm with highway traffic.

If every major intersection on Eglinton West had this treatment, it would make it a whole lot safer to cross these streets, especially for transit riders accessing their buses! Royal York would be a no-brainer for the next treatment.

The double left turn lanes from eastbound Eglinton Avenue West to northbound Martin Grove Road is an improvement. There is currently a backlog of single-occupant motorists making that left turn during the "rush hours". Hope they will have pedestrian sensors (or buttons for the cheapskates) on the refugee islands in the wide intersection.

This intersection needs to be redone. The current design is of no benefit to anyone: pedestrian having to cross an hostile intersection, long backlog of vehicles going eastbound because the green phase just isn't long enough to clear it.
It is probably safer for everyone if it's grade-separated:

There's a new survey up on the website requesting feedback on design principles across all the stations.

May 27 2022 Survey

They've included Renforth Station in the selection list but haven't provided any rendering for that station. Kinda silly.

Any case, folks, please go in and provide your feedback. Don't think it'll do much, but definitely worth to get the message across to the team in charge.

IO Market Update - May 2022

My thoughts

- The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Airport Segment has formally been added. Now that the Feds/Province are serious should be make a new thread for that section or is it okay combining it to this thread?
- Eglinton LRT East Extension has not been given any priority and doesn't seem to be on the Provinces radar for a project to be completed in the early 2030s. Seems to be mid to late 2030s at the very earliest. Also important to note that the riding is mainly liberals so makes sense.

Eglinton Crosstown West Extension - Advance Tunnel (Jane to Mt. Dennis)
- RFQ Dec 2021
- RFP April 2022
- Contract Execution Jan - Mar 2023

How is the Jane-Mt Dennis tunnel going to be built? I'd hope at least that section is built as a cut-and-cover instead of getting TBMs ready and drilling for a paltry few hundred metres of tunnels.
