I attended the public meeting at Little Trinity church held this past Tuesday. First Gulf took a lot of heat from the audience, mostly because of the proposed height of the three towers (i.e. at 3 times as of right which is about 8 storeys), but also a lot of negative comments about the uninspiring design of the buildings, and failure to abide by the tall building guidelines for the King-Parliament Secondary Plan area with respect to step backs, 45 degree vertical plane on King Street, minimum distance between buildings, etc. The height of the residential building podium was also an issue as most observers felt it was out of context with the height of the neighbouring heritage buildings on the s/s of Front Street and the w/s of Berkeley Street. Quite a few participants objected to the loss of the former Toronto Sun wall mural on the south elevation of the building facing Front Street. The audience comments essentially echoed what the Toronto Design Review Panel concluded. It will be interesting to see if First Gulf heeds the obections from local residents, the DRP, and city planning, and comes back with a more modest scale development proposal. Stay tuned...

Great pic !

Sorry but a silly irrelevant question: The lovely opera house building you can see in the bottom of the picture.

Is it in use ? I know a couple things use it but the whole building ? It's really amazing building !

The Rogers store at Front & George is moving to one of the vacant King Street storefronts:
Location: 333 KING ST E
TORONTO ON M5A 3X5

Ward 28: Toronto Centre-Rosedale

Application#: 12 204237 BLD 00 BA Accepted Date: Jul 3, 2012

Project: Retail Store Interior Alterations

Description: This is for interior alterations to unit 110 for a new Rogers/Fido retail store. This will also include HVAC and Plumbing.

The question now is what will go where the (fairly large) Rogers store now is. Tim Hortons is surprisingly absent from the neighbourhood!

Timmy's is at Richmond & Sherbourne. Not so absent!

Yes, I know there's one there and there's one at King and Victoria but really since the one on Front Street @ Church closed there's not much around the St Lawrence market and the main part of the GBC St James campus on King @ George.

Has anyone been able to find info on a possible new tenant for the old "Visitor Parking" furniture store (254 King St. E - northeast corner of King/Princess)

Also, any info on the brick re-facing at 193 King Street East (next to Le Petite Dejeunder)? Can't seem to find anything on the new tenant there

*Walked by King/Sherbourne last week and noticed two new tenants on the North Side just east of King's Court - a travel agency specializing in Peurto Rico and more exciting - a new bar - Junction Hotel - hopefully it sticks around - looks pretty cool inside so far

Just rode by this the other day, on Front heading west. The store front of Dollorama etc. looks...terrible. It just comes across as shoddy. Anyone else?
