Disregarding the Cloverdale conversation, if anything, it is a shame that the Kipling GO platform and the Kipling TTC platform were not built across from one another. A bit of a missed opportunity for customer convenience and satisfaction.

The distance to walk from one mode to the other is 70 metres. It is virtually impossible to make that distance less without having them share a platform.

The 2 ends are close. But Toronto1 does have a point. If the GO station was moved slightly east it could have a bridge to (1) the bus bays as proposed in the Kipling Hub and (2) 1/3 way down the subway station connecting the South Parking to the GO to the subway. It feels like a chore now going to the GO vs subway. We need it to be an easy option to get on the GO and relieve traffic on the subway.

Not as easy as one might think. Moving the platform does nothing if the GO stairwell stays where it is. You will still walk all the way to the stairwell anyways.

Theoretically one could sacrifice the LRT rough-in and build an overhead bridge, with the GO platform moved a couple carlengths east - but that would be a bad move - it means moving the CTC wiring for the interlocking, and the LRT platform may be needed one day. The GO stairwell has to tie into the end of the platform, so you are stuck with the west end underground passageway.

I find Kipling's layout inconvenient - somehow, the stairs and escalators don't point in the right direction for any of my trips, seems I'm always backtracking part way down the platform to get upstairs. I wonder if that is objectively true or just some sort of illusion. Anyways, for the amount of money it would take to change things around, and for the number of steps saved, it's not worth changing, in this decade anyways. We have to start thinking about getting better use for money. Wynne made it sound like money was no object, and Ford is likely to pinch pennies, and City Council just won't spend. Somewhere in between is prudence.

I agree the GO stairwell is a bit tucked away. I wonder if a little cosmetic redecoration down in the underpass to the GO stairwell might make it "feel" less of a walk.

For most people (ignoring, for a moment, that Kipling GO is not at all wheelchair-accessible) still a slightly easier transfer from TTC subway to GO here than it is between TTC and GO at Downsview Park - mostly because of the vertical distance between the two modes. It remains a shorter walk than many intra-TTC transfers made at say, Wilson Station.

Only thing we'll be seeing extended from Kipling in the near term is a fly-under to get the trains under the Milton corridor to TTC's Obico property (looks like it was expropriated in April).

How near term would that be? Wouldn't they only be building the yard once the relief line is going ahead?
There's the slight problem of funding, (last guess was $500M) not to mention the looming 'upload' by the Province.

There will be 4 new GO Transit bus bays out of the 14 bay bus capacity when the mobility hub opens in 2020.

Does anyone want to speculate what routes will be stationed at the Kipling Mobility Hub based on previous regional GO Transit bus route priorities?

Thanks

There is a plan to have one route stopping at Kipling as well going onto Union and it supposed to be a new route. GO is to have 4 bus bay at this terminal from day one vision, with some new routes servicing it as well existing routes, but no info on them back then or now that I know of. More info on these routes will surface in 2020 as the terminal nears completion.

I really hope they don't divert route 21 here. It's bad enough that it services Dixie.

^ The 21 bus is a slow tour of everything you don't want to see in Mississauga. After the 25 or the 29 bus into Square One from the west, which just fly along, after waiting the twenty or so minutes from the 29 bus, to the 21H, it's slow hell from there to Union.

It's an absurdity.

I see they plan on saving the roof of the waiting area for the kiss & ride to the point it's being place on moving rigs. Is it far cheaper to save the roof and move it 2 times than building a new one?? More tunnel forming done and waiting the roof. You can see the footing for the new GO Bridge now.
