This is what I found about the curtain-wall provider of the L Tower in an article by Brian Salgado from February 2011:
"Yuanda Canada is pleased to be part of the Dominus team on the L Tower project. As the largest curtain-wall manufacturing company based in China, Yuanda is proud to provide design, engineering, fabrication and installation service in the development of the exterior façade of L Tower. With a closely cooperation, the final result will be a landmark project in Toronto that both Dominus and Yuanda can be proud to have participated in. Once again, congratulations to Dominus and its dedicated staff. Our website: www.yuanda.com.cn".
I also found some interesting background information about Yuanda in this presentation called "Overseas Curtain Wall: Worth the Trip?" by engineering firm Morrison Hershfield, which ends by saying "… so YES, worth the trip!", basically giving Yuanda their nod of approval.
What I didn't find anywhere, is an explanation for the specific problems Yuanda and Dominus ran into at the L-Tower. Could it be that it failed the new Ontario Building Code that came into force on Jan. 1, 2012 and requires compliance with the highest energy efficiency standards in all of North America? Ontario was the first jurisdiction in Canada to mandate EnerGuide 80 levels. This requires homes and larger buildings built after 2011 to have a 35 per cent increase in energy efficiency compared to homes and larger buildings built before 2006. This is probably quite a challange for the builders to comply with and probably also difficult for the code inspectors to enforce. But, could it be that the L Tower didn't score the necessary 80 energy saving points due to its curtain-walls?
All that of course is pure speculation. It would be nice if the builder could tell us what the real story is.

Tuesday, May 8
A 99M (part 1) wall and column concrete pour, levels 39 – 40 starting 1:00 pm, which is not expected to extend beyond 7:00 pm.
The hoist will be raised three (3) floors, to stop at level 33.
Wednesday, May 9
Rebar (steel) delivery starting at 12:30 pm.
Please note that eastbound vehicular traffic may be interrupted during this delivery.
Pedestrian traffic will remain open.

nice contrast in surroundings that l tower has. being right next to the sony centre, and with the union tracks to the south, st lawrence/distillery to the east... L tower dominates the area, and has a lot of unobstruction.
