Speaking of hydro seeding... flew over Riverdale Park East too.

The grass is a total disaster.

Looks like crews have been driving trucks up and down the hill instead of using the paved access road further south.

Or maybe it's all the winter tobogganing.

Whatever it is, this beloved hill for sunsets is more dust than grass at this point.

As The City builds new parks it's important it upkeeps its existing ones.

Most of that damage is erosion, it's been an ongoing issue for years (that's not an excuse, it should have been addressed ages ago). The effect down slope is mostly the result of foot paths that then act as drains (water runs down the impression when it rains) and this in turn washed our more soil and the problem worsens. The patterns on the far right suggests vehicle intrusion perhaps.....I'd have to assess it in person. The yellow patches are a probable drainage issue.

One can patch this over a bit, but really a large portion of the slope needs the grass removed, regrading, fresh soil and sod/seed, and changes to the top of slope. However, that's expensive, even moreso given that Riverdale was a landfill and off gasses methane.

A marginal solution here (fill in soil depressions, as few changes as possible, seed n' sod as required, and fence off the slope for 45 days after restoration) is still a six-figure investment at least.

The bigger solution here could hit high 7-figures w/o missing a beat, it would also mean taking the slope out of public use for a full season.

Here's an old pic, not sure how old...........but it's pre-Riverdale Park:

That's the Don Jail (Bridgepoint) up the slope on the right side, Riverdale Park would be to the north. Notice that the slope doesn't look the same as today at all. So that puts this pre 1923 for sure; and we're post- the Don River straightening. So that gives you a probable window in the first 2 decades of the 20thC.
