This is a good sign for the continuation of the work of Waterfront Toronto. Waterfront 2.0 here we come.
 
This is a 1B project - huge news for WT if it is an actual funding commitment. Odd though since they are still doing due diligence work on it.

Even after the announcement, it will be years before we start to see things happen.

Give it 10 years to see the new roads and bridges that will be done first before any development can take place.
 
Of course any funding announcement they make now means next to nothing unless the conservatives get re-elected. The trick will be getting the Liberals or NDP to make those same commitments.

If we host the Olympics then funding for this will be pretty much guaranteed.

There's no reason to believe that any government would back out of plans for this: the Port Lands simply won't happen without this infrastructure spending, and Toronto has to have this area in shape eventually to continue growing. It's either down there, or up in the fields around the suburbs, and that's simply no longer an acceptable alternative on moral or even political grounds.
