They really narrow that area with the south sidewalk being too wide unless bike lanes are going next to the road. Ready for paving net week.

The plan includes bike lanes on the south side of harbour, then sidewalk and a bunch of trees, guess they'll start with the silva cells first

Par for the course, considering there supposed to be a 5 year ban on doing this. Then there is no hydro work require from Bay to York.They won't come until the re-paving is done.

Just think where things be today if hydro had done the work west of York in June? By Sept, the new road would be done with only the ramp to be completed to the point this new ramp could open sooner than plan.

Looking west from Bay, the south curb almost runs into the traffic light standard.
That is a very wide space between the exiting sidewalk and the new curb. The road is basely ready for a concrete slab or asphalt, but still need to fix the traffic light poles at each end to a new location to finish the curb. Part of York St northbound curb is in place, but the traffic control box has to be relocated.
Most of the new road has been dug with one more box to relocated between York and Simcoe.
All the concrete for the new ramp is pour except at the expansion joints as well the guard rail walls. Not sure if the concrete has been pour between the new ramp and the Gardiner.
Looks like I was right about backfill being pour from the new ramp to the ramp small retaining form wall. A small amount of precast interlock panels for retaining walls is on site. Until they get built and anchor, can't start the backfilling.

Ready to pour the base of the new road.
I can’t believe how wide this sidewalk is going to be. Harbour is really going to be a pedestrian’s paradise. Sort of a mini version of the Gardiner East Boulevard we dreamed of.
Despite early fears, Harbour Plaza doesn’t turn its back on the street. It’s very transparent and porous.

Hopefully the section of road between York and Bay can be opened in advance of the rest of the work (possibly one month away?).

1. Don't forget they still have to dig up the north side of the road and reconstruct that, I doubt it will be open much before October.
2. I think that the 'sidewalk' is actually bike track plus sidewalk. plus trees etc

There was an article I saw somewhere on twitter this week which noted (in Ottawa context) that where new streets are being designed, sidewalk-as-bike track is cheaper than road-as-bike track, since you don't need it to stand up to the same punishment. Seemed a bit of a "value engineering" thing as there was also discussion of wider manhole spacing etc.

It is. But a bike track on the sidewalk creates a visually wider realm for pedestrians with that buffer away from the road.
The sidewalk itself is still being widedened in addition to the bike lane. Remember, that this road felt like a highway and was barely used at all by pedestrians. What an upgrade!
