One of the more interesting developments in Hamilton is the now under-construction McMaster Graduate Student Residence. (Not to be confused with the McMaster Undergraduate Student Residence, also by Knightstone Capital and Diamond Schmitt) It's located at one of the most prominent corners in our downtown, King and Bay.

It's 30 storeys, 97.9 metres tall, and will house 644 graduate students once open. You can see the architectural plans here.

Is Hess Village still the raucous, party scene it used to be 10-15 years ago? I have plenty of memories, both good and bad.

It's not my scene, but from what I've been told, it started to take a hit about 5-10 years ago, then got hit worse during COVID.

It's still popular with McMaster students and young people from Ancaster and Flamborough. However, much of the night life of Hamilton has moved to James Street North, and to a lesser extent, King William and Augusta.

Looks like they're setting up the forms for the second floor slab on the east end of the site, and are working towards grade on the west end. Pictures taken today.

Some cool angles going on with this formwork for the walls in/around the vehicular entrance:

Some photos of the King Street frontage. Unfortunately, it doesn't really take advantage of it as well as it could since it will have no retail space.

Great shots. Adding a larger student presence downtown will be great for the area.
