Mississauga has a burgenoning population and Missisauga can host a 30-40k size stadium for sports, concerts, and other events. A 7,500k capacity stadium will wofefully underserve Mississauga. Not only will this stadium serve Mississauga but most of Western GTA.
I'd agree if Mississauga had a tenant and real plan for this stadium, but it doesn't.

A 7,500-seat stadium for soccer is the perfect size for what is ultimately an untested market for outdoor sports. We don’t know just how well CPL soccer will perform yet. Bigger sizes can come later. I would also rather see Mississauga sooner build a bigger indoor arena for hockey and/or basketball (10,000 to 15,000 seats ideally) than a massive outdoor stadium.

10000 seats and you can host the wnba, gleague and Marlies. That’s a noble goal when you add the concert venue it would also provide.

Why not both!

Yes. They need to have definite commitments from serious potential pro sports team owners or concert promoters (who actually have the money, not just wishful thinking), before they move ahead. Unless they think $32 million or more for a stadium to be used for "Ultimate Frisbee" is a good way to spend tax payer money, building anything like this with only the faint hope that it will somehow eventually attract a major tenant is a bad idea.

Toronto has several small stadiums with a 2000 to 9600 capacity range where the fields get used, but otherwise rarely have events with paying spectators in the stands -- Lamport Stadium, Monarch Park Stadium, Birchmount Stadium, Rob Ford (formerly Centennial Park) Stadium, Esther Shiner Stadium, etc.

We have some idea from what they report (usually this kind of thing is inflated well beyond the number actually there, to look good for sponsorship purposes).

We know how CPL soccer performs in general obviously, just not for Mississauga. If we were to use York United FC as the closest metric, their attendance levels are garbage at the bottom of the league, but there is enough variation in the GTA as a whole that it is impossible to know how it would work out. Even the rest of the Mississauga sports scene doesn't help us - one one hand, people did not go to Steelheads games when they were here. On the other hand, Raptors 905 has an anomalously high attendance for NBA G League. If I had to guess, Mississauga would probably sit in the middle of the pack, especially if the stadium is in a good location.

People go to the 905 because it’s association with the raptors. If Mississauga hosted the Marlies instead of the steelheads people would show up because of the association with the leafs. Personally I do not believe it is the market… it’s the advertising and what it’s connected to which makes it successful or not. MLSE branding at a relatively affordable price sells tickets.

To help people imagine a stadium here, consider that there are modular wood solutions that can be built pretty quickly and relatively inexpensively. They can also be expanded in the future, which is great. One example is Bear Stadiums, some renderings below:

Bear has already done work for the Canadian Premier League out on Vancouver Island (Langford) for Pacific FC. Some pictures of that stadium:

Using a product like this would be great for Mississauga because it’s cheap (compared to other stadium infrastructure), fast to build, and results in a great spectator experience that’s intimate but pro-feeling. I’d assume a stadium at MCC would be great for other community events and recreational uses too.

^Yes! And I believe that the temporary cricket stadium to the north in Brampton has gone off without problems and there is much less connectivity. In addition there are a few schools in the area that could use the field when not in use by the league.

Something along these lines would be perfect to start, especially if there is room left to grow the size.

I know Mississauga is big and growing, but that's not a strong enough indicator of success. Look at low the York United FC attendance is (<2000 per game).

I don’t even know what this league is. If it’s anything less than MLS I don’t know how it can grow. That said if Mississauga could steal the argos then that is something.
