The pantry door actually doesn't take that much space, and the inside is quite spacious. You'll be using the space in front of the door to swing it open anyway, so it's already dead space.

Fun proposal. Regarding it losing it's trendy luster, one never knows, while this may indeed become as wildly dated as floral wallpaper, it may also be at some point be embraced as being violently retro chic, say 20 to 30 years from now.

Bathurst has to be one of the ugliest, most dilapidated streets in Toronto. I'd be happy to see it completely redeveloped from top to bottom. (well, except for the few decent newer developments)
