The track record of TOD isn’t great…. Ford announced Woodbine in 2017 with great fanfare, and it has ‘t happened. Mimico also received lots of fanfare. But beyond the immediate bounds of the Mimico project, a lot of densification is moving forward. So I would think that QP will just try to keep the project moving and keep the volume low until somebody does get the work done.

Why can't it be? Not all trains have to stop at every stop (note the 4-track corridor in this location). Also, not all people travelling from Oakville are heading downtown. What if someone wanted to visit a friend in one of the condos at Park Lawn? Or maybe they live in Burlington and work at the Ontario Food Terminal? Or are they coming from Whitby and want to visit Humber Bay Park and Bike the Humber River trail? these trips would have all been impractical by transit before, but with this stop, it will be quite possible and probably more attractive than driving. these examples are specific to Park Lawn, but I'm sure similar examples can be made at any of the new stations. Imagine the following service pattern on LW,
  • Express trains every 20 minutes, skipping Long Branch, Mimico and Park Lawn
  • Local trains every 10 minutes, all stops from Oakville

That seems to serve everyone's needs pretty well; you get your fast train to Toronto, and others get served by the transit they need.

that's pretty much exactly how it works in Berlin and it works beautifully.

4 track corridors
2 tracks are dedicated to S-Bahn service (10 minutes all day)
2 tracks are dedicated to Regional & Intercity (ICE) service.

dividing the two services (local & regional) is so simple to understand and use. it just makes so much sense. someone travelling from Hamilton doesn't want or need to stop at every station. said person could always transfer to a local service at an interchange station if needed. the user experience is enhanced for both services when both are offered and clearly defined.

it's being built with phase 1 of 2150 Lake Shore. Part of that phase is the new street which is currently undergoing an EA for the rail underpass and that one will be submitted to the city in the fall.... and THEN they do 30% design for the road

it feels like we're still at least 1-2 years away just for the whole 2150 project to get started at minimum.

Good points above. Also new condos are not selling, so might be a while before they can start on Phase 1.

FWIW, I don't see any sign of permit applications for the new station.

Strictly speaking Mx does not need to apply for them; but generally, they do, its a cheap second set of eyes from the City on their contractors.

Apologies if this has already been commented on - the drawing I see has a revision date is 2023-06.

It's notable that the stopping lines on LSW services will continue to be on the outside of the existing 4 track configuration - like the present configuration of Exhibition but unlike the Kitchener / UPX configuration where they're to the South/West. There's provision for 2 Future Tracks (with the North platform becoming an island) but I don' see any indication if these will be additional GO tracks or Ontario Line tracks.

why do you think Ontario Line tracks for an extension to that area would be called out on a project drawing when no such project is (publicly at least) being contemplated outside of forum fantasy threads?

Thinking these are OL tracks is highly speculative. Is it possible this is additional capacity for VIA service (i.e. these will be GO tracks, with current Tracks 2+3 dedicated to VIA / express GO)? Or a rerouting of the 501 from Humber Bay Loop?

It is highly speculative, there is clearly not a network decision announced which would lead to any of these.

And the construction of said tracks would be a major effort, involving a new bridge over Mimico Creek, tunnelling under the Gardiner, and hefty construction along the Gardiner and west through Mimico.

It's enough to know that they have futureproofed the design for some as yet unforeseen expansion that is at best decades away.
