Huh?, a big deal to who?
To Ryerson.

As someone who goes here, the complete lack of student rez is very very noticeable, and is reflective of the student culture where probably 95% of students are commuters. Adding student residence will change things, there will be an even larger 24/7 presence of students on campus, which I predict will have a knock-on effect on student culture.

The additional study space will be very important too. The SLC is already packed at all times to the point that I rarely go there anymore despite it being an excellent facility. Even post-SLC, Ryerson has a pressing study space supply issue.

Plus the nursing students moving into this building frees up room in the POD and Sally Horsefall buildings for other programs to expand into. As someone who is in a program with no dedicated floorspace on campus, that is kind of important.
 
This will still be big for Ryerson since it will vastly increase residence spaces, of which it is at a severe under supply right now. The Cockwell building will be a much more important building overall, though.
