I think a couple more years of high ridership and big developments popping up along the ION corridor should hopefully be enough proof to any administration that an expansion is worthwhile.

As oppose to the Cambridge extension, it would probably be cheaper to add a new N/S route through Kitchener, and more worthwhile with the proximity to GO and YKF. However, I wonder how much this would be disputed by Cambridge locals and councillors.

There's already multiple proposals on the Kitchener part of phase 2 for buildings between 13 and 30 floors so the Kitchener side is already getting large proposals, however the same cannot be said about Cambridge with council constantly fighting any height along the future line.

Any new line in Kitchener is going to be align more E/W (if we are referring to cardinal directions) but N/S (if we are referring to road directions). Cambridge is already on the hook for phase 1 being part of the tax increase for it so the region isn't going to abandon it at this point even though it may make more sense for a new line across Kitchener. (roughly replacing the 204 or 205).
