Just to be a contrarian - the NY Trump International is listed 8th on this list:

"Ugliest Buildings in New York According to the Experts"

http://gridskipper.com/travel/new-york/ugliest-buildings-in-new-york-according-to-the-experts-238431.php

Not to bring the thread off topic, but that list has the Hearst listed as #3.

And Trump has a few building in NY named after him, I quite like Trump World Tower: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=trumpworldtower-newyorkcity-ny-usa

Nothing wrong with different points of view .... especially from "Experts" and a lowly contrarian such as Zephyr.

Remember that the Trump International is semi-disqualified for being a jazz-up of the c1970 Gulf & Western building, the bottom of the boxy barrel for *its* time.

Oh, and re Toronto, what's happening begs a gag about the tower getting shorter than the vulgarian's fingers...

Brilliant!

Approximately 70% of the bulding is sold. Talon International owns the land. The project is financed. City permits have been applied for and approved. And the building is set to begin construction this fall. I'd call that a success anywhere.

A success? On the contrary...A success would mean, construction would have begun oh, lets say a year and half ago, when TTT's team stated that construction was to commence spring, then summer, then fall, then spring..etc.

I can understand that buildings of such proportion can run into some problems and can and will sometimes be delayed, but again I fail to see how this building has been a success- sales are slow and instead of asking for height variances to increase the buildings height, TTT is asking for a reduction- THAT does not sound like a success, however unfortunate it may be.

A redesign would suite me fine..Never liked either of the designs- out with Zeidler and in with..........umm.....................somebody else.

p5

I would put the Ritz Carlton under the label success. If Shangri-la starts construction next year I would put it under the label success. A building that was ho-hummed when Ritz first accounced it in 2001, which had the most minor of outwardly makeovers when Trump took over, and which has been scaled back and may finally see construction this fall is hardly a huge success... maybe a success if the goal was to build any building on any timeframe.

Success is such a subjective term. There is no right answer. My own view is that if something gets built, then it's a success.

The Trump tower has been full of disappointments, and that makes it not a success in my opinion.

Then the latest change is what put the nail in the coffin... the height decrease. The proportions were just right on the last tower, and it is going to look really stumpy now.

I wonder if we will get to see renderings and what it will look like :(

TrumpToronto,

Can you provide any height statistics now that there is a potential change from 57 floors to 59 floors to account for an increase in mechanical space?

Thanks in advance...

You're joking right? A 900 foot or so tower on a lot that size will not look stumpy. And if it gets built it most certainly will be a success. So what if it took longer than expected. Is Bay Adelaide not heading for success now after almost 20 years?

I saw what looked like a new model on City TV last night. It looks like the portion leading up to the spire is gone. (The pointy part) but the spire remains. That was the part of the tower that made it unique.

Maybe someone who lives downtown or works down there and can stop by the sales centre and see if there actually is a new model. What I saw on the news last night looked to be a little different than the other model and renderings I've seen, but they showed it from a terrible angle.
