They won't be cracking into the tunnel, if that's what you mean, but I suspect that we will see the topside of the concrete. The new structure will bridge over the tunnel, with the columns sitting on vibration absorption "pucks" within a certain distance of the tunnel. Similar isolation material was used most famously at the Four Seasons Centre of the Performing Arts, and recently at Daniels HighPark. The substrate is totally different here than at Daniels HighPark where it was basically all sand, and this one is not going anywhere near as deep, so it will be interesting to see how much the foundation here differs.

The entire tunnel will be exposed during construction to have it inspected by TTC personnel and once all is well, the tunnel within the site will have new waterproofing applied. Once that's done, the structure can be built up around it. Also as part of this development, an additional ventilation shaft will be getting installed within the boulevard on Yonge (which you'll see work beginning for that shortly).

From yesterday.

They were busy today. What are these cylindrical things made of rebar called that they are installing?

It looks to me like they are creating foundation piles. Because the parking will be above ground here (owing to the subway tunnel), they pretty much have to create a ground level foundation that acts as a bridge over the subway. It would be supported on these rebar reinforced piles which would go down to the bedrock.

Or if anyone knows better, please chime in!
