If you compare its height to the height of the doorframe leading to the elevator lobby - yeah, it's constrained.

There's a precedent in the station where the entrance to the Via Concourse has a low lying beam but it's handled better. The vaulted arch helps to visually continue the height and distract from the low entrance.

Perhaps they can take a cast of the Via Concourse entrance beam and cover the bare drywall over the York Concourse entrance with bronze painted plaster to maintain the style of the station.

There is should be no need to replicate the decorative frieze since they existed in both of the east and west portals (where Harvey's and the security office were located). I have been wondering if there is any plan to reinstate the decorative features during construction but haven't seen any evidence yet, assuming that they have been kept.

They are presumably 'heritage objects' and I suspect have thus been kept and may well reappear. I had forgotten about them, thanks for the reminder!

Given they were part of the Great Hall from the beginning I cannot see them not being put back unless they are causing some sort of major issues. Speaking of things that need to be put back... I now have a craving for Harveys

Oh, yes. There it is.

Makes perfect sense now. They left the bare drywall because as part of the Great Hall restoration, they're likely going to rebuild that balcony which in turn will cover the blank wall.

This afternoon they are busily erecting scaffolding on the south wall of the Great Hall - initially on the east end of it over the unused (?) VIA ticket wickets. The cleaning of the ceiling has now been completed on 75% of it - looking good!

Richard, your 5th image is incredible. Quite literally night and day between the restored and unrestored tiles. Gotta make sure I visit Union soon.
