and just a day later…

Seems that an advertising screen is being built atop Foot Locker and VANS.

I still don't understand the 'torch'. Why design a curved structure only to hang square signs on it??... and was it supposed to rotate?

It was designed for the Olympics fun centre to have an animated flame atop… but it's now just holding a regular, cheaply made flat ad screen.

And it is rusting slowly but surely. Too bad it got bought and converted into studios with added even more injuries on the structure (the exposed mechanical elements) - it would have been kindness to raze it to the ground and redeveloped in full.

I swear, between 10 Dundas, The Torch, the Eaton Centre media tower addition/atrium conversion and the Atrium media tower, Yonge and Dundas is a full on architectural freak show on the cheap. Of course, the quality of the public realm also matches that.

Yeah, it smacks of a cheap, cobbled-together patchwork. On the other hand, that's kind of synonymous with the Yonge Street vibe that's been around for decades. Plus ça change...

It's nice to see the big panes of glass, but what were they thinking with those balconies up against the theatre? It's basically like having your own personal alleyway to hang out in

We at urbantoronto are in trouble if those now qualify as big panes of glass.

Is it actually precast or a panelized EIFS?

Based on the anchoring systems in place on the south wall, it would suggest these are precast panels
