The addition is well designed and clad. The TPL deserves commendation for continuing to uphold high standards for civic architecture and the city's public realm.

With that said, while the massing of the addition is respectful to the picturesque original building, I'd prefer more of a connection between new and old in the architecture, for instance in terms of colours, materials, and/or geometry. The two wings look like two different and unrelated standalone buildings, which is odd.

Agreed. For instance while the slate is very sharp, I'd have picked either limestone or a brownish-red stone that matches the brick portion.
 
Hope they're ready to open by around summer time. I'd like to check out the interiors of the new addition and how they integrated the original spaces.
