They are drilling core samples on the north-west corner of the site today (in the McDonald's parking lot next to the sidewalk). There's also signage up on the ex-BMO bank building on the corner - just wrapped around the old BMO backlit signs. Building is still featuring "retail space for lease" signs in the windows.

Anyone know the timeline for this one? Are we talking months for the end of the McDonald's and Hasty Market? Or longer?

Starbucks is moving into the north-west corner - they applied for a Minor Variance for a patio in the space on the former CIBC parking lot on the north side of the building.

Two different "north-west" corners in the two posts above, but it all adds up to this:

It's likely the building on the northeast corner of the intersection—at 1182 King West—is phase 1, hence Starbucks crossing the road to the west side of Dufferin to get out of the way for that phase to go ahead, or at least to become a sales centre for phase 1. Who knows how long before other stores in that plaza announce new locations or simple closures, but when that happens, that'd be a final indication that demolition was imminent.

I'm not sure that retail space still being available for lease in the old BMO would indicate anything for the larger site on the southwest corner of King and Dufferin—at 1221 King West—as redevelopment plans there likely include a scheme to keep that building operational during redevelopment around it.

The Starbucks on the north-east corner is gone as of yesterday. They closed up at 4pm, took down all the signs and papered the windows. The new location in the former CIBC branch on the north-west corner is not ready yet but it's close to done and they plan to open December 16.

There's no sign of closures for the other retail outlets yet.
