The problem is these developments are cliche and cookie cutter high end retail that you can find in any city. What makes yorkville special is its unique architecture and history. Why are we rebuilding communities and retail that ALREADY work. The iconic jean store Rainbow is one example of a great store being pushed out by what will likely be a high end international brand with no uniqueness. What I'm worried about is yorkville turning into the duty free at any airport . Keep those stores on Bloor street.
But i disagree, those locations do not 'work'. It's understood shoppers don't like to walk up or down steps. Mini-plazas die for that reason because Norther Americans are now obese and sedentary and the effort simply isn't worth it any more. Same is true of that building West side of Avenue Road North of Yorkville.
How many 40 year-old shoppers look like they're game for a hop & skip up 8 steps?
40 year olds to someone barely out of their teens must seem oldIf you're only 40 and already cannot walk up 8 steps you probably shouldn't be shopping in the first place.
