This is more of a "secondary access points" instead of accessibility post. However, open railway map makes it easy to look at the TTC system with in the context of the city and map out potential secondary access points. For example:

  • At St Patrick station a northern entrance at Edward St.
  • At Osgoode station a southern entrance at Richmond St.
  • At St Andrew station a northern entrance at Pearl st or even Adelaide St. potentially
  • At TMU (Dundas) station a northern entrance at Edward St.
  • At Rosedale station a southern entrance at Aylmer Av (I thought this was actually on the books)
  • etc

Good idea, not currently planned for.

  • At TMU (Dundas) station a northern entrance at Edward St.

Is planned, along with Greenwood its next in queue. The nature of Dundas is that there is no room for a platform to platform connection over the tunnel, so the plan is an exit off the NB platform into the current street market site at Gould when its developed.

There is also an entrance desired off the SB platform, likely back into the Atrium complex at the north end, that is tied into the rental proposal there, last I heard.

  • At Rosedale station a southern entrance at Aylmer Av (I thought this was actually on the books)
  • etc

Not currently planned for, to my recollection.

  • At Osgoode station a southern entrance at Richmond St.

These are non-starters given the distance between the two stations.

You may as well have a people mover between the two they are that close.

Actually, a second entrance to St. Andrew is in the capital plan. Not sure if its going off the south end or the north end of the platform, @smallspy might know.

I don't know if they're even at 10% design, its scheduled for something like 2032'ish last I saw.

No additional exits to Osgoode, beyond those contemplated by the O/L are planned at this time.

How many stations are accessible now? 62 out of 70?

Yup, here's what's outstanding as of yesterday:

Which of the current "accessible" stations will have their elevators closed for maintenance in 2026, making them inaccessible? That's why parallel accessible bus (or streetcar) routes are needed.

Will become 63 once Summerhill opens. Wonder when in 2026 the remaining six will open? Not counting Old Mill since that one won't be until 2028.

This came up earlier in the thread. I don't know how accurate this is now given that Lawrence is already open.
The TTC has an update on accessibility initiatives on the agenda for next week's meeting. Lawrence is not as advanced I would have thought.....but we do have 4 more stations with elevators due in service by year's end.

NO, you need two elevators for every one at all time to deal with the issue when one elevators does down or out for maintenance, This applies to all transit systems to give an accessibility person a fighting chance to use the system than than forced then to do a long trip back from the next station where there is a working elevator. Seen a number of systems with 2-3 as well 4 elevators especially heavy use stations or deep stations. Most cases it two.

Islington is supposed to be fall of 2026

@Sauga89 above is on point.

Greenwood and College were both slated for Q1 2026. I can confirm Greenwood is close, not as sure about College, but certainly it should be open before summer.

Most of the rest will be in the second half of the year.

Whatever happened to the plans for a second exit at Greenwood?

They were put on hold several years ago, because the local stakeholder group recommended that the second exit face Danforth, which the TTC didn't want to do.

It was extra distance, and they had to buy a property on Danforth to do it.

But the TTC's proposed alternative was a mid block exit on Strathmore, which everyone hated, because it would have been an absurd walk to/from Danforth.

I don't recall if the TTC/City ever acquired a Danforth property.

That's a question to ask the TTC. Will each level or platform will have TWO elevators? Or is the TTC definition of "accessible" is having ONE elevator per level or platform, even if it is out-of-service?

Both TTC and GO are doing the bare minimum of one to cut cost while not meeting riders needs. The AODA needs to be beef up as well and maybe the accessibility community will bring legal actions to get the 2nd elevator.

Drum, unless you have oodles of money lying around it will be impossible to add a second elevator in every station.

It's a textbook case of undue hardship.
