I'm wondering if Rick did something borderline illegal requiring a legal opinion.

Something obviously happened.
Very unlikely. If it was Leary related, the conversation went something like:

“We’d like to turf this idiot. Can we do it?”

“Sure - you’d have to pay him.”

“How much?”

“Hmm. Based on what I see in the contract, $$$”

“Can we offer $$ to make him go away?”

“Maybe, but he may sue you!”

Rick Leary Lives On

At today’s special meeting of the TTC Board, the expectation was that Rick Leary would be dismissed as CEO. This was not to be, for reasons yet, if ever, to be revealed.
Problems with Leary’s performance go back some years, and he is Andy Byford’s worst legacy. His original hiring was intended to bring a focus to operations as Byford’s deputy based on a supposed reputation from his stint at York Region improving operations there. Needless to say, there is a huge difference between a sprawling bus network with mostly infrequent service (YRT has fewer than 600 buses) and the TTC’s bus, streetcar and subway operations.
Leary came to YRT following his retirement under a cloud from Boston’s transit agency, the MBTA, quite a step down in the scale of systems. In Boston, a serious collision on the Green Line (the streetcar subway which has been a major part of the City’s transit system for over a century) led to a Nation Transportation Safety Board condemnation of the safety culture at the transit agency (then the MBTA). Leary was supposed to address the report at an MBTA Board meeting, but never showed up, and retired shortly afterward.

Sad news indeed.
 
I'm working on figuring this out.............there is no question why this meeting was called; and the manner in which it was called had a specific purpose too.

I can tell you some media types had the article written awaiting the final details to go to press...........

So a lot of people are scratching their heads at the moment.

I wonder if they wanted to toss him but the lawyers advised against it for whatever reason.

Perhaps a wrongful dismissal concern?

TTC restoring streetcar service to Humber Loop, improving west-end service from Sunday

October 27, 2023

Starting this Sun., Oct. 29, the TTC is restoring 501 Queen streetcar service west of Roncesvalles Ave. to Humber Loop, following completion of major infrastructure upgrades by the City of Toronto and the TTC in the King St. W., Queen St. W., Queensway, and Roncesvalles Ave. (KQQR) intersection area.

Beginning at the start of service on Sunday morning, it will be the first time since January 2021 that streetcars are operating along The Queensway, including to stops at Glendale Ave. providing direct access to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

501L Queen replacement buses will continue to operate both ways between Long Branch Loop and Humber Loop, via Lake Shore Blvd., Park Lawn Rd. and The Queensway. Customers can transfer between buses and streetcars at Humber Loop.

Additional streetcar service through to Long Branch Loop is scheduled to return on Sun., Nov. 19.

301 Queen buses will continue to operate between Long Branch Loop and Neville Park Loop in overnight periods, 7 days a week.

Additional service to Humber Bay Shores Neighbourhood

Also from Sunday, new 501M Queen replacement buses will operate both ways from Humber Loop to north Park Lawn Rd. via Lake Shore Blvd., Marine Parade Dr., Park Lawn Rd. and The Queensway, to provide additional service through the Humber Bay Shores Neighbourhood.

Customers at stops on Lake Shore Boulevard east of Park Lawn Rd. can board 501H/M Queen buses to access 501A Queen streetcars at Humber Loop, or access streetcars directly via walking through the tunnel leading to the loop.

508 Lake Shore service returns Monday

Starting Mon., Oct. 30, 508 Lake Shore streetcars will return to weekday peak-hour service, operating between Long Branch Loop and Parliament St. via King St. These streetcars will provide customers with direct downtown service to and from Humber Loop, without having to transfer vehicles.

Morning peak period trips will be scheduled to depart from Long Branch Loop approximately every 20 minutes starting at 6:40 a.m. through 8:10 a.m. Afternoon peak period trips will be scheduled to depart from King Station every 20 minutes from approximately 4:25 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

I was refraining from commenting until the dust settled with the whole TTC board meeting about Rick Leary. This is just extremely sad that they didnt finally get around to getting rid of the inept useless fool. There must've been something that came to light as they were discussing the whole matter, because for them to go this far to call a special meeting and do nothing after the fact is extremely odd.

That's so cute they're finally bringing service back, let's see how many months it will last before streetcars get pulled again.
The next time when they built the Park Lawn Loop and the Lake Shore ROW for it. At least 5 years down the road with widening of Lake Shore happen before it

As for Rick Leary, should have been gone years ago and most likely a legal issue as to why he still here.
