I really do not like the ones that were just plopped down and disrupt the simple aesthetic of the B-D stations. In my opinion, Victoria Park's art was successful in harmonizing with it's environment. The concept for Wilson doesn't look appealing either.

I'm not a big fan of the Runnymede or St. Patrick concept art; subway stations are fairly permanent, institutional presences in a community and the sketchbook artwork seems out of place.
I feel mixed about Chester's station's art, I also think it doesn't jive with the 1950s aesthetic, but I see glass artwork in subway stations in Montreal and I love how the light goes through painted glass at sunrise/sunset.
Wilson station's art reminds me of a science center or some kind of children's playground, but if I'm feeling generous I could call it whimsical.
Sherbourne's art is more muted and blends in better with the existing station. It reminds me of the Dufferin station redesign. Sherbourne station is already blessed with some fantastic murals at its Glen road entrance, although google maps shows me that those have been vandalized since I was last in the area.
King's art is probably my favourite, there's something captivating about light features and I like that it synchronizes with the diurnal cycle and reinforces the circadian rythm of troglodyte PATH dwellers.
All-in-all, it's nice to see some effort put into adding distinguishing art to the stations. I'd like to see the program continued, maybe the "University line Renaissance" project could even be funded.

Too bad the new artwork for Wilson station won't interact with the artwork already found in the station.
It would have been great if LeuWebb had permission from Ted Bieler to integrate both artworks.
However, Glencairn station needs new artwork, especially one that doesn't get damaged from ultraviolet radiation from a certain nearby star.

Art is subjective, I will not judge. Some might like a piece while others absolutely hate.
I do agree the King Station one is pretty neat when it looks different every time.

TTC enhancing and expanding express bus network

The TTC is recommending enhancing its express bus routes to improve transit service to customers in all parts of Toronto.
At its June 15 meeting, the TTC Board will consider recommendations flowing from a 2014 motion moved by Chair Josh Colle to find ways to provide more rapid, reliable, and reasonably priced transit options.
"Given increasing wait times and crowding on many regular TTC bus routes, the implementation of new express routes along major arterial roads during the peak periods could provide an excellent option for riders at a fraction of the cost of building new transit infrastructure," said Chair Colle. "The more rapid and reliable service offered by an express route could also address our City's congestion issues, attract more riders to the system and act as a bridge solution while other rapid transit solutions are developed."
The TTC operates peak period express bus service on 24 bus routes from Monday to Friday, and 10 routes at off-peak times. These express bus services have proven popular with customers because of reduced travel times.
In a new report, TTC staff is recommending a 10-year, three-phase approach to enhancing express service.
- First phase (Beginning in 2018): Re-deploying existing articulated buses on certain express bus routes as vehicles become available, implementing all-door boarding on 192 Airport Rocket on a trial basis and continuing to work with City departments to install transit priority measures such as transit signal priority and queue jump lanes.
- Second phase (2019 to 2021): New and enhanced express bus routes from 24 to as many as 28 routes by the end of 2021.
Overall, service improvements will be made on five new and eight existing routes.

Once completely rolled out and ridership fully matures, the annual net operating cost for the enhanced and expanded express bus network, which will benefit nearly 70 million customer trips annually, will be approximately $13.1 million by 2023.
It is estimated that one in every six bus customers would use the expanded express bus network. The 2018 capital budget would call for the purchase of 38 articulated buses (17 buses in 2020 and 21 buses in 2021) costing $34.2 million in the 2018-2027 TTC Bus Fleet Plan.

Why aren't they adding an express bus on Bathurst?

Looks like new or expanded express buses could begin once the Crosstown LRT opens, so that the number of buses needed for express service would be available.

Much of the route is very close to the subway--anyone looking to make a long trip would be probably better served by taking Line 1, so the demand is probably relatively local. Also, they only have so many buses to work with.

If anything will gather filth and grime, and be a magnet for for graffiti, it's deep relief sculpture like the above.
Many TTC stations are now as grimy as London or New York's, a discussion in itself (and the attendant health implications) but to display art like the above without some kind of protective case is wonderful in intent, a real challenge in the reality of constrained upkeep budgets..

I'm guessing the Eglinton West Express is considered "potential" because of the still possible Crosstown LRT West extension may or may not happen.
