I heard a single announcement on Line 1 going north from Osgoode Station where it said "This train is going to Vaughan Metropolitan Centre making all stops". Why is this necessary? Wouldn't it only be needed if it was going to short turn, not going to the terminus?

I just checked totransit.ca and witness a 64 taking the detour route .... so indeed, why is there a bus stuck for 9 hours ? That seems a bit too long.

Na!!!, Seen a few sitting for the hock in the same spot up to 24 later.

Depending on the back log of calls for the hock as well who has the contract, it can take a few hours to a day to removed that bus. The hock company is also moving other non TTC vehicles and have only so many out at a time as well distance wide to handle all calls.

BlogTO is reporting that the TTC will be erecting more (retro) signage at subway station entrances this summer. (See: https://www.blogto.com/city/2018/05/ttc-bringing-retro-style-signs-back-toronto-subway-stations/ ) Got confirmation from TTC that all 4 entrances to King Station @ Yonge will get these. (For years only 3 of these have had signs.) New signage for Melinda and Commerce Court entrances will follow once elevator work is done - i.e. not soon!

Retro signage is great and all but I would prefer more tangible upgrades like teflon walls, handles and floors. Easy clean!

So they are installing new fangled Presto machines at Warden Station.

NYC has one of the worst reliability of their subway system in the entire first world. Something like 65% on time performance.

That is hardly anything to aim for, its clear the answer to "how NYC is performing maintenance with 24 hour service" is that, they aren't.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/06/28/nyregion/subway-delays-overcrowding.html

There are reasons why NYC reliability is so low, mainly the fact that many lines interconnect and share routes. Many also don't run that often so the slightest delay reduces on-time performance astronomically. The Yonge line here doesn't interline with any other lines, however, the IND 8th avenue line serves the: A, B, C, D, E trains, with some of those having frequencies of up to every two minutes. There are others still: the Broadway line, the Queens Boulevard line, Lexington Avenue, etc...

New Presto machine at Coxwell too, beside the gates on the 22 bus platform side.

@Kitsune The delay removing the 64 bus may be related to where it stalled. I had someone run into the back of me going down the hill on Southwood Drive, which has a very steep grade. If the bus was stuck there, removing and towing it could be a tricky business indeed.

Steve Munro has written up an Internal Audit report about closing the subway for longer at night which seems to confirm the negative stereotypes about the usefulness of audits which know the cost of everything and the value of nothing: https://stevemunro.ca/2018/06/01/ttc-contemplates-earlier-subway-closing/

TTC also often leave up notices hours after the incident has been cleared. Especially for the less traveled routes or branches of a route. We might just be speculating the supervisor forgot to let the information updating person
