Has the TTC ever considered putting skirts on the fenders of their buses during the winter to prevent road filth from covering the windows? It's bad enough to be stuck in a crammed, rattling box, but it's even worse when you can't even look out the windows.
 
what about that special livery for the GO buses that were used in the parade? were those made and applied on the buses for free? More likely, they had a few employees without anything useful to do, so they've found them this job. Not the best use of taxpayer money
Wouldn’t those guys in the shop be paid regardless of putting decals on coaches? Unless you’re suggesting they should be laid off? I can’t imagine the cost of those decals is very high anyway.

In my opinion? Why not? The federal government seems to want to help private companies keep employees with things like the CEWS program.

I know a couple of people who benefitted from this and are extremely grateful to still be employed. Their employer has found things for them to do.

Depends how long they're expected to have nothing to do. Hiring and training new employees is a huge expense, especially for jobs that require unique skills or specialized mechanical knowledge. So yeah, keep them busy this way.

The Fed's are pickup 75% of the wages of current employees and this means TTC is only picking up 25% of the employee wage to keep then on the job.

This allows TTC to keep train personnel and maintain current service at an extra cost to run those service and help to keep vehicles at low numbers for riders on them.

TTC has stated that the layoff of employees would save them about $25 million of the $90 million they are currently loosing. With the Fed help for wages, TTC would see about $19 million saving in place of the plan $25 million, but it keeps riders happy and deals with safe spacing better than plan.

You might get 113 to help TTC to save some of that $6 million lost to keep their workers employ.

Since TTC has a long list of LRV's needing work to get them back into service, some of the plan layoff workers maybe able to help there to get cars back into service sooner than later as well bring cars up to BBD require standards.

TTC employees plan for layoff have an option of doing something they weren't hire for at full pay or go home and get less than 40% of their wage, as well having no time frame when they may get recall to work for full pay.

TTC takes steps to improve pedestrian safety along 90 Vaughan bus route

This Sun., May 10, six bus stops along the 90 Vaughan bus route will be taken out of service in order to improve pedestrian safety and better standardize the stops network. The stops are:

o Stop #8424 - Vaughan Rd. at Wychwood Ave.
o Stop #8407 - Vaughan Rd. at Wychwood Ave.
o Stop #8419 - Vaughan Rd. at Rushton Rd.
o Stop #8406 - Vaughan Rd. at Atlas Ave.
o Stop #8412 - Vaughan Rd. at Jesmond Ave.
o Stop #11360 - Vaughan Rd. at Robina Ave.

The TTC engages in a comprehensive process when making decisions to remove stops. The remaining 90 Vaughan stops are located close to an intersection or designated mid-block crosswalk and within 300 to 400 metres of the next closest stop.

Customers will be advised of the changes through on-site communications, bus stop pole notices and digital communications channels including the TTC website and social media.

All transit shelters located at the soon-to-be out of service stops will be removed by the City of Toronto within three months.

Customers with questions are encouraged to visit ttc.ca or reach out to TTC Customer Service at 416-393-3030.

Better spacing and locations for bus stops need to be overhaul system wide like streetcar stops were to a point. Having stops a block or 2 away and under 500' is too close. Some locations are very dangerous and wrong location.

Hmm. Shut down a big segment of the subway to get all the remainder of the year's maintenance done now, and use bus substitutions with all the laid off employees?
That would be a real nightmare for people travelling from the outer reaches to the core, but if they could knock off, say, almost all the outstanding and overdue maintenance for the rest of the year in those ten days with a total subway shutdown then I can understand the value of that that proposal.

And... it's gone from the website. Replaced with a vague title of "State of Good Repair Contract Award"

Nice eye though.
 
Could it have to do with that section of track around Davisville that they were talking about shutting down a few years ago to rebuild? Did anything ever happen with that work?
