I believe to stop bikes (especially the fat tire food delivery ebikes) from getting stuck on the narrow escalator.
I believe it’s to stop all delivery bikes entirely. That escalator use to break so often before those were put in. When the renovations happened, they added a bike rail along the side of the stairs, and signage on the steps imploring its usage; which were promptly ignored by the delivery twits. And so the really annoying, yet completely necessary bollards went in.

The best way to stop them would be to actually have enforcement on the Kitchener line! That's how a lot of them get downtown, blocking the trains during rush hour with 4+ ebikes per door

So my follow up question would be: why this station (and specific exit) and seemingly no other?
It's not the station property; that's 33 Bloor East. I'm pretty sure the property owners were just tired of having to repair the escalators.

On a side note, the accessible elevator at that location, with it's more secluded location and easy access from Hayden has long been used as a urinal by drunk students/homeless/whomever, so keeping the escalators running for those who can't manage the stairs is a boon.

Hmm i'm just going to leave this here; trains not stopping at Davisville for almost 2 hours on Wednesday during the mid-day, while Doug was giving himself a pat on the back over at the same station at approximately the same time?

Coincidence, or did it just so happen to be 2 wildly different events happening at the same time? I'm betting on the former.

I'm sure an FOI on this one would be comical to read.

Someone was kind enough to leave a souvenir on my commute

Lovely.

I still don't understand how people think it is appropriate for people to crack open a cold one on the subway. It's likely just me but nobody should be drinking alcohol on the subway

Not everyone can handle their booze and I doubt anyone wants a belligerent drunk causing problems.

I feel like if we enforced fares 99% of this crap would disappear

Depends on the person really. I've been known to occasionally stroll down a busy street like Queen on a nice warm day while openly drinking a beer, but then again I'm a level headed, non-belligerent type.

I think over about the last year or so, most of the time I get on the subway, and it goes, with fewer (but not none) of the "security incident" and "trespasser at track level" type of delays. There seems to have been a change in attitude from the authorities from their previous apathy and inaction, perhaps (I would hope) resulting from more education about the law and what they can and should be doing in these circumstances, along with hearing of examples of other places like New York.
I'm not saying seeing an empty beer can is great, but it's something I would barely notice, compared to if it was being thrown at the windows or doors by a guy while he was yelling at the invisible demons in his mind.

In the past week, I’ve had two separate incidents of people smoking on the TTC — once on Line 2 on Sunday and again yesterday on the 506. In the first case, enough riders spoke up that the person eventually put it out. In the second, the operator came to the back and asked the individual to leave the vehicle.

You can't legislate civility. You basically just need one rule: "Don't be a jerk!". And that rule, like all others, depends on enforcement.

This was my point. If you have a lightweight pounding back a mickey of screech with a reefer in their hand things likely won't go well.

Now, if you have someone like Andre the Giant where you can put back 115 beers and drive home that's a different story.
