I like the direction of having more animals from Canada. I can't count the number of times I've had guests from other parts of the world that just wanted to see a bear, moose, or just a deer and wondering if there were sanctuary type places or something where they could see such animals (not just chance encounters in nature, or even Elk Island where it's still chance to see anything but bison). The best I could do was take them to a zoo that had camels, red pandas and an elephant.

I agree with this post except for the red pandas - while certainly not native here, they thrive in cold climates, too, and are so adorable. Don't send the red pandas away!

I always thought Valley zoo would be spot for Artic animals. A large area for these for year round viewing.
Yes, despite the stereotypes Edmonton is really not arctic either, it has four seasons. It is not a place a polar bear would like in the summer anymore than an elephant in the winter, so maybe not year round viewing.
