After almost 3 years, they finally submitted the application, this project better be good.

The City of Vancouver has received an application to rezone 1780 East Broadway from C-3A (Commercial) District to CD-1 (Comprehensive Development) District. The proposal consists of a mixed-use development with residential (including strata, rental and social housing units), retail, office, a childcare facility, and a new public plaza.

The proposal includes:


• commercial retail space at grade including a large format grocery store;
• three residential towers, ranging in height from 24 to 30 storeys above the retail plinth;
• a childcare facility;
• a public plaza running parallel to the SkyTrain station; and
• a total floor area of approximately 57,673 sq. m (620,784 sq. ft.).


This application is being considered under the Grandview-Woodland Community Plan.

I like it, finally, there will be some "skyscrapers" on Broadway commercial district, some people even call it Vancouver's uptown.

Westbank has probably been busy with the huge Oakridge project. This project has also received a lot of push-back from the locals (too tall, too much traffic, etc.). I personally like it and look forward to the sad, sad Safeway being gone. And welcome the addition of new public space.

This looks good, and like City of Rain said, there will be some taller buildings giving more of a 'midtown' vibe in that area.

The ubiquitous traffic and height complaint that accompanies every development it seems. I get that height can sometimes be too tall, but in this case they've scaled it nicely.
