Crane coming down today!

I know they are lowering the crane, box by box but how do they do it? Do they start it from the bottom?

They use the white support structure below the cab and jib to extract each section one at a time.
The white box is wider than the red segments and temporaily supports the crane while the segment is being removed.
Once the segment is removed, the whiote box and cab and jib above are lowered.

Is it the same way to erect the crane then?

Yup, just in reverse.
In the pics below, I think half the white cage has been removed.
