UP Express was overpriced when it opened it. Wasn't it 22 minutes and 22 dollars, or something like that? Ridership was low.
The problem was the initial pricing being too high when it opened.Does UP Express have this problem? It, like VIA, seems well-used every time I take it.
It‘s not just that. If I had to design a consortium push will tempt the Conservatives into cancelling the procurement, I would end up with something like the Liberal freak show Cadence assembled…All of these companies that are in the cadence consortium are either based out of montreal or paris.Nothing screams conflict of interest or political motivations more than that

Air Canada being a direct competitor to rail travel... Only french and montreal based companies... announcement in montreal??Well, there were only three bidding teams. Do you have an actual reason to believe there was a conflict?

Air Canada, CN, and VIA have always been headquartered in Montreal. I believe a lot of rail expertise for SNC (Atkins-Realis) is coming out of Atkins in the UK, which has a lot of passenger rail experience.Air Canada being a direct competitor to rail travel... Will this project be killed if the PC's win the election this year?
It still doesn't mean it will actually get built. We have been down this road before.Announcement and Presser for High Speed Rail is out.
From the PMO:

Canada is getting high-speed rail
The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that Canada is developing a high-speed rail network in the Toronto-Quebec City corridor.www.pm.gc.ca
Cadence is your winner.
Commitment is full HSR - up to 300km/pr.

We've never gotten this far before. They're committing billions to get started on the design and preliminary work.It still doesn't mean it will actually get built. We have been down this road before.

They've only done feasibility studies before.
When the news first broke about AC's involvement, government claimed they couldn't comment while the procurement process was still in progress. They need to provide specifics now about their involvement and any safeguards.Conflict is not only about actual, it’s about potential and perception. The potential for AC to be conflicted is pretty obvious. I would sure like to hear what safeguards are proposed to address this.

I doubt Air Canada and their share holders would approve of investing billions of dollars into HFR and then kill it. Money is money. When the news first broke about AC's involvement, government claimed they couldn't comment while the procurement process was still in progress. But if they lock in fares unfairly or prevent other carriers from using it when they have an outage or issue, then that would be an unfair advantage.
