I have seen a couple posted to social media. One has to look really closely to see a difference of the test train from a regular Venture train, though.

The more useful configuration would be one legacy coach and one legacy loco, allowing double ended operation, in effect the legacy loco just idles when trailing and just drags the trainset when leading.... but I'm told there are too many incompatibilities and complications.
I imagine that even the seven car trainsets would require a lot of adjustment of setpoints and possibly reprogramming of the onboard electronics.
And with a lot of the cab cars still inoperable as such due to things like broken windows, maybe seven car trainsets don't fit the wyes, maintenance bays, etc.

I think that is a dead-end project. Two of the three still at MMC. The third was patched-up for that single charter of the coding kids, and languishes at Vancouver station.

But honestly though we should be getting NEW dmus for these lines not relics from 3 generations ago.

No such lines exist right now and there is so far no funding for such additional services at the horizon.
Replacing the RDCs for Sudbury-White River is part of VIA’s long-haul fleet replacement and that single route alone does not justify the procurement of an entirely different fleet type…
Given that all of the above has been discussed here (and thus explained to you) ad nausem, I think I start to understand why @crs1026 has decided to give you the @micheal_can treatment…

I marvel at the determination of the enthusiast community to not acknowledge that lovely old trains do eventually wear out, and are no longer fit for either front line service or even cost-efficient life cycle renewal.
It’s interesting that no other agencies have swooped into Ozark to grab up those old Budd cars. What would make VIA a most likely candidate that bucks that trend?
My affiliation with RDC’s is lifelong, but if you love them… check out a good museum railroad. That’s where they belong.

PS - today’s headlines are about our PM handing his ministers mandate letters calling for massive budget cuts. i’m more worried about preserving the Ventures than the RDC’s.

White River service is already being cancelled because the existing cars are having issues. I was wondering if VIA might get one or more to backstop that fleet. Nothing more than that and certainly not notions about Vancouver Island
At one point the Gaspe folks were rumoured to have made an agreement to purchase those Vermont RDCs but no level of government wanted to give them the cash

Anyone find this article familiar? I believe we were informed by some on this board a while back (albeit in a colder situation) that VIA is the only railroad that would leave passengers “imprisoned” on the train rather than disembark them https://www.news4jax.com/news/local...cksonville-stopped-for-mechanical-assessment/

I've said it before. Only in the rail industry is a private entity allowed to build and own the infrastructure. On the other side of the coin, the public builds roads for road freight companies to use..
There are many reasons why road freight has surpassed rail freight and this is one of them. Given the choice of building or buying your own tracks vs using public roadways. What would you choose?
It's time the Fed government play hard ball with cn and CP. Either work together or we expropriate the rails. The chances of either happening is slim to none
