I believe this is the same service they have from Hamilton airport.
It's setup to operate out of the airport primarily because these airports have a surplus of long term parking lot space where you might have your car parked for a week or more, so instead of driving to Pearson, you drive there, and then you take the "luxury" bus the rest of the way.
I believe there's added features like they check your bags automatically on arrival at Pearson, and they load them onto the bus automatically on the way back.

The point of this service is to offer protected connections to AC flights from Pearson (so if the bus is late and you miss your flight, AC will rebook you for free), and it counts as a segment for Aeroplan/status purposes.

I'm not even sure AC will sell you a ticket on this bus without a connecting flight.

Possibly in part to throw Kingston council a bone, since they have likely been seeking reinstatement of the former YGK-YYZ regional service killed during COVID, and presumably a lot more can be made on those Pearson slots to longer haul destinations

Supply-demand I'd think.

The Kingston-Toronto VIA service that was temporarily suspended for Covid is more of an occasional-use commuter run, than connecting to international flights. And has already been restored - in 2024 if I remember correctly - and extended to Ottawa, so not as evident on the time-table.

It is a little off topic but loosely ties in because of AC's involvement with Alto.

Bringing it back onto topic, since Alto is supposedly taking over all corridor services, one has to wonder if they will start providing direct trains to either or both both YUL and YYZ from Kingston.

In the unlikely (but hopeful) event that Alto proceeds, then they'd take over the other services. I can't see them providing either. Though they effectively serve YUL already - I don't see them diverting the track.

YYZ is more possible, as (if they rebuild the Pearson terminal), they only have to extend the existing service on existing track. But it seems redundant given there's already an excellent service from Union.

There is a strong commercial and operational reason to expand ALTO service to Pearson: commercially, as that‘s the pre-requisite for moving connection flights to the „ground level“, and operationally, to minimize their footprint at Union Station where Metrolinx will be very reluctant to tolerate them dwelling for expanded periods. ÖBB’s Railjet operates similarly at Wien Flughafen (the rail station at Vienna Airport)…
 
I can see running some legacy service from Kingston to Kitchener and stopping somewhere for a shuttle to Pearson (I just don't think a scheme to take tracks through yyz will happen). The HSR services no, unless they are extended west. But that's 2050, isn't it.
