After work one day I was going to get a haircut downtown at the salon my girlfriend works at. I had some time to kill before my appointment so I decided to walk rather than take the bus. During the walk the sun was shining on the buildings perfectly so I decided to pull out my phone and try to capture some of what I was seeing. That didnt really work out but I think I still got a few good pictures.

I got about half way there before I decided to start taking pictures.

We start on Euclid Avenue near East 4th.

That is all for my walk. Oddly early that day I headed over to the library during lunch. While in the historical map wing I got a tip from an employee to go to the 10th floor of the newer wing of the library for good views of the city.

*I waited for cars to pass so that I could get better pictures of the buildings since that was my focus at the time. Additionally I waited for breaks in pedestrian activity. I plan on doing another picture thread soon that focuses more on activity and street life. I also might do a tour of the grand lobbies of Cleveland. I might have to be careful/sneeky though since many are banks which prohibit photography.

Wow, apparently in Cleveland they are able to maintain and run their fountains! I'm sure it goes off the rails in side streets or sketchy areas but the areas you show look very well maintained.

We have actually just fixed two fountains(not pictured) this year. Huge upgrade! Also we have renovated several green spaces downtown.

One of my favorite park renovations is Perk Park.

All taken from the google images...

Before: And in need of a major upgrade

The park is also filled with some very nice street furniture. It is about a year or two old now and has been very well maintained.

Next up is the miserable public square, which is taken over by wide avenues. Terrible quadrant design doesn't help either. We are currently in the planning process to redo it though, which includes closing one of the roads. Mayor wants to close both cross roads but one is a state route and much harder to get closed. The park is still maintained decently, but design is the major issue.

And this project, which is a little over the top, but should be awesome is currently under construction and is paid for by a private nonprofit group, Playhouse Square who runs the theaters, with some public funds. (Watch short video below)

I walked through Cleveland in the early 80's and never returned....things are looking up if your photos are representative of a new urban renewal.
