Hi folks, recently i recieved water bill from the city of toronto, 130 days count and charge $350, is it too much for a couple and a medium size dog. just find the water charges is getting more and more every year. pls share some of you guys average. thanks

It does seem a bit excessive. May be you can give us a run down of the bill, also include information such as how large your home might be and how often you use utilities.

The most I have ever paid for 133 days was $188.67 and this was for a dwelling that's about 1100 sq ft with a couple living there. This was during 2009, so I'm sure the rates have gone up since then.

Summary of SERVICES
Water$ 60.29 (Water+Sewer 15491.00gal@0.009050780000)
Sewer$79.92
SWM Fee $48.46

its a detached bungalow, around 750sf, ever since we got our puppy, the bills seems going up, ya know, lots of cleaning and washing, doing laundry and watering the lawn try to repair the burn and stuff like that, if only two persons in the house , i assume much less than right now.

Summary of Services Block 1: 32450.00 gal@0.00986544
Water 137.66
Sewer 182.48

i guess we did use a bit much than a normal two ppl home, btw, we are in york, toronto

cheers

Water has gone up 9% for 2010. That is why landlords are upset as well, since the Ontario Annual Guideline amount for 2011 has been set at 0.7%, why 2010 is was only 2.1%.

thanks for the shares, seems like mine is too much compare to you guys, i think it takes up the most is we water the lawn two times a day for almost 40 days straight, lots of puppy wee burn, got to repair it, hopefully will slow down in the next bill, puppy grow into adult, more mature and less cleaning.

wonder why my sewer very high, is it connect to the usage of my water?
we may purchase the low flow shower head and areator, also a rain barrel for next year.

cheers

The water part of your bill is scheduled to go up another 9% next year; it is metered so if you use less you pay less. Te sewer portion is based on your property's value so you can't reduce it by installing a rain barrel, though it's a good idea. The garbage portion is also based on usage so you can reduce it by getting a smaller bin and recycling more and using your organic bin.

How can the Sewer portion of a bill for a 2000 sq ft home with 3 adult occupants be $57.41
when the same component of a bill for a 1100 sq ft home with 2 adult occupants be $109.51?

The number of toilets can't be a factor in the Sewer charges,
I water my garden daily and that use is reflected in the appropriate area of the bill.

Do these people just make the numbers up or is there really a rational answer?

Must be a percentage of the water usage. Unless if the downspouts go into the sewer and not on the ground there might be a different percentage, but I really doubt that.

Interesting dissuasion and as per one analytical research the average citizen of U.S. uses 150 gallons of water each day. In small towns water rates range from $ 1 to $ 2 per 748 gallons of water or HCF and it stand for hundred cubic feet, while in large cities, the rate is $ 2.00 to $ 3, $ 00 for each 748 gallons of water. New bill average U.S. household water is $ 51.
