I'd love to see your sources for that claim.

Waterfront Toronto is building plety of permanent stuff. Have a look at hTO Park, the Spadina slip deck (and the others commencing construction this fall), the East and West Bayfront and the transportation upgrades that are ongoing that will help bring people to the water.

These are just the start. By next summer, the waterfront is going to be buzzing with visible construction on 3 or more slip decks, bridges, floating piers, Queens Quay's transformation, and this rhythm will be maintained well into 2011.

Actually, HTo Park has nothing to do with Waterfront Toronto, which is probably why the park exists today. There are no buildings under construction by Waterfront Toronto in either West Donlands or East Bayfront. Only the Spadina Head of Slip is, almost, built. Not bad for 7 years of work and hundreds of millions of tax dollars.

The park about HTO is true enough, but the massive amount of Earthworks and Don River Park doesn't count? In addition, the next 2 slips, the Spadina Bridge, Sherbourne Park having been tendered... Plus like it or hate it, Corus, George Brown...

I highly doubt that having a public agency like WT actually engage en masse in property development would be palatable to most.

Fair enough, but again it may be worth splitting hairs. The Corus Symphony project is also not Waterfront Toronto, but Tedco. George Brown is merely "announced" and uses 100 percent Ontario government money and is not yet a deal approved by the city Council.

The massive earthworks at West Donlands are being done now by ORC and were in the planning stage years ago before the Waterfront Corp arrived. Don River Park is the massive earthworks.

Sherbourne Park was to be completed in 2007/08 and yet it has not even started.

Keep in mind, WT is not supposed to be involved in building individual private buildings - that's the task for businesses and other organizations. It is an agency responsible for the planning, coordinating the development of the area AND putting in the public realm.

Done by ORC as a result of coordination and planning by WT - and the funding for it is part of the provinces' contribution to the waterfront. The "plans" drawn up years ago is part of the ill-fated Ataratiri project back in the late 80s - which had not been revived as proposed then. The current works is speced by the TWRC (now WT) as part of the West Don Lands plan AND provincial EA. The massive earthworks is part of the flood protection required for development in the area - on top of which will sit the Don River Park.

Sherbourne Park was to be completed in 2007/08 and yet it has not even started.

You should check up some of the more up to date lit on waterfront development - they are all available on the WT website.
