The premise that Canada is prospering and the US is not isn't supported by the data. For 2016, US per capita GDP was significantly higher than Canada's, both on a nominal and a purchasing power parity basis. For that matter, Australia outperformed Canada pretty convincingly on both measures too. Of course, as Canadians we naturally believe in our moral superiority and social justice superpowerness, but that doesn't translate into economic success.
