Agreed, glad to see he was on the losing side of this.
There is a long history of city councilors being in favor of more density in principle or in other areas, but not in theirs. I find some of our politicians pompousness and duplicity a bit insufferable

It's just politics; they cover for each other. Councilors can vote against the requests in their specific wards to placate the local opposition, while being rest assured that they won't jeopardize progress because there's already more than enough votes to approve the proposal.

Oh, I am aware of that. I would just like a little more consistency and honesty, but perhaps that is too much to ask of them.
 
It could be worse. I guess I'd rather have councilors who play this wink-wink game with symbolic and deliberately meaningless votes against density than a council that uniformly opposes density.
 
I don't find vote for me, it could be worse very motivating and I think that explains the outcomes of some recent elections.

I would prefer to have someone who I feel I know where they stand, even if I don't agree with everything than a bunch of weasels
