1 - Curry Barracks ramps up with some of the high rises that are proposed for the area
2 - Flames and City settle their differences and get the ball rollin on an arena
3 - Brentwood Commons starts construction (and is built at the originally planned height)
4 - 3 tower proposal at Elbow River Casino
5 - Arris 5th and third tops out by year end

I would love to add a supertall at the Oxford site but I didn't ad to list as that is definitely not plausible at this time

I agree fully that we need a proper art gallery, but the Planetarium would be a good intermediate step. Once it’s in there and established it would be easier to plan toward a larger world class facility.

I just feel like they'd get stuck there for decades, considering how little respect art gets in this town. Though I realize that considering nothing has been done for decades anyway on this front, it may be better than the status quo.

Perhaps it would be make sense to redevelop the Glenbow, and give them a wider reach. Better to have one stronger museum/gallery than two mediocre ones.

I hear you on the lack of respect for art in this city. I feel like the way to an art gallery might be a similar path that Edmonton took by having the art gallery in a crappy building for a few years, and then getting an upgrade. I believe most art galleries started out small and worked their way up, but I’ve had the benefit of multiple decades to do this.

Hopefully if they did get an art gallery established somewhere it wouldn’t take multiple decades to get it upgraded.

Amazon is a large company and has some traits of large oil companies but it’s also completely different in other ways. Even if they only create 5,000 jobs instead of 50,000 that’d be fine by me.
I would actually prefer 5,000 jobs to be honest. It would be a nice boost, but the local economy would be less vulnerable to the fortunes of one company.

Exactly.

Of course, Amazon isn't exactly like big oil. Big oil is established and still profitable with the lower commodity prices. They just need to trim down operations and exploration during slow times. Most that falls under the Amazon umbrella is still pretty conceptual requiring massive amounts of cash infusion just to stay afloat and keep pace with the competition. It's not a problem for Bezos when share prices are hovering around $1300 a share. What about $400? It's pretty precarious. There's an equal chance of Amazon actually needing an HQ2 with 50,000 well paying positions or completely disappearing in 25 years time. Right now, the whole HQ2 lottery is not just free exposure but, also taking advantage of Amazon's rapid accent and locking in the best deals for any of their operation including within Seattle itself.

As long as the buildings for HQ2 aren't built with our tax dollars, I wouldn't mind it if they left eventually. Empty buildings are a nicer problem to have than no buildings at all IMO.

That's precisely what happens when you have empty buildings. You don't get any new buildings. That's the worst thing for a group like us.

I like the new buildings too, but empty buildings would help with diversification. My wish is for one more new tallest on the Oxford site and then no new office towers any time soon unless they are mixed use.
