Garrett Kelleher, Irish developer of the bankrupted Chicago Spire, is expressing confidence that he can pay off his creditors and jumpstart the project again. Kelleher is reportedly in talks with investors to secure funding for the 2,000-foot (610-meter) condominium tower.
"Garrett Kelleher is very committed to the Chicago Spire," his lawyer, Thomas Murphy, told Chicago Real Estate Daily. "We're coming out of the perfect storm, and Garrett thinks this is the perfect product."
If completed, the spire would earn the title of the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. That title, which is currently still held by the Willis Tower in Chicago, will soon be awarded to the One World Trade Center in New York, upon its completion, as decided by the CTBUH earlier this week.
